Our Classroom Update

Reading

Students have been working on their different leveled Direct Instruction Decoding Programs.  The targets are different for each leveled group.

 

The students have been working on the Corrective Reading Comprehension Program
The learning targets are:
  • Part 1: Determines an item based on a given description

  • Part 2: Follows directions to identify items that are the same

  • Part 3: Follows directions to identify items that “are made of the same material,” “are in the same class,” and “are the same color.”

  • Part 4: Determines “true” or “false” given a picture and description using “all,” or “none”

  • Part 5: Tells how many months are in a year

  • Part 6: Names the months of the year

  • Part 7: Tells two facts learned about reptiles

 

For our Guided Reading, we are using the Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) program. They will be reading their leveled books, completing word work, practicing the new skills taught in the lesson, and responding to what they have read.  At certain levels, students will bring home a navy blue folder with "Take Home" readers. Each student has a log to record the book they have read to you and place for your signature. Please return the books the following school day.


 

Writing
Some students have been working on the Language for Writing Program.  
The learning targets are:​
  • Follows Directions

  • Classification

  •  Synonyms & Opposites

  •  Definitions

  •  Writes sentences about the picture using the word bank

  • The capital letter at the beginning of each sentence

  • The period at the end of each sentence

Math

 

In our small groups, we are working on our Direction Instruction Programs at our different levels.  
Some students have been working on Connect Math Concepts (B)
The learning targets are:​ 
  • Supplies unit names from questions

  • Solves addition and subtraction facts for 5

  • Solves classification word problems supplying unit name in the answer

  • Solves multiplication problems with rows of like coins

  • Solves action word problems supplying unit name in the answer

 
3rd Science
Targets we are currently working on
  • Develop a model to describe that light reflecting from objects and entering the eye allows objects to be seen.

  • Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.

  •  Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brain, and respond to the information in a different way.

3rd Social Studies
Targets we are currently working on
  • Explain how rules and laws change society and how people change rules and laws in Illinois.
5th Science
Targets we are currently working on
  • Use models to describe that energy in animals’ food (used for body repair, growth, motion, and to maintain body warmth) was once energy from the sun.

  • Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment.

  • Support an argument that plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water.

5th Social Studies
Targets we are currently working on
  • Distinguish the responsibilities and powers of government officials at various levels and branches of government and in different times and places.
